PRESENTATION OF THE CONCERT

The pursuit of a goal as mad as it was impressive: 129 days to row solo cross the Atlantic. This was the challenge Mylène Paquette set herself, with a devoted team supporting her on land. Inspired by her adventure, this production, in the form of a radio drama, takes us through this perilous crossing to the sound of works by Sibelius, Debussy, Beethoven, Rossini and Mussorgsky, among other composers.

Symphonic Crossing was originally created by Radio-Canada and the OSM on September 27, 2014, at Maison symphonique de Montreal. It is presented again by kind permission of Radio-Canada.

PRESENTATION OF THE CONCERT

Projection of the film Battleship Potemkin by Sergei Eisenstein (1925) accompanied by the OSM.

Do you know Battleship Potemkin? This 1925 Soviet silent film, directed by Sergei Eisenstein, dramatizes a naval mutiny and the inequalities of Russian society of the day. Action scenes, tight close-ups, and the film’s emotional intensity are emphasized by Edmund Meisel’s original score, performed for this concert by the OSM. One of the greatest films in cinematic history!
