As part of its fundraising campaign for the OSM Youth Concerts, the Volunteer Committee is happy to launch its 2010 calendar, which contains magnificent illustrations inspired by the paintings of Mrs Louise Lachance-Legault. Mrs Lachance-Legault chose to dedicate a series of larger pieces to the beauty of symphonic music and to the talent of the OSM musicians and their music director, Kent Nagano. As a chorister and music aficionado, she has grasped this very special universe and translated its energy, majesty and power onto each canvas.
These calendars, priced at $20 each, are presently on sale on the OSM web site, at the OSM ticket office, during every OSM concert as well as in different boutiques such Archambault and Renaud Bray.
The first OSM educational concert, a Youth Concert, was given in 1935 at the auditorium of Le Plateau school under the baton of Wilfrid Pelletier. Since then, the OSM has pursued its education vocation with youngsters tirelessly. The Youth Concerts (which are conducted by Jean-François Rivest, OSM conductor in residence) are key elements in allowing the Orchestra to pursue that mission, with the series welcoming more then 20,000 students every year for as little as $10.50 a ticket. In addition, all teachers registered for the Youth Concerts receive a free detailed instructional guide and a CD of excerpts to help them prepare their students for the upcoming concert. Finally, a team of volunteers visit elementary schools every year to prepare the children for the Youth Concerts, and these visits are free.
