Pre-concert talk, 1:30 p.m.: Espace musique’s Mario Paquet interviews conductor Jean-François Rivest.

Jean-François Rivest, the OSM’s dynamic conductor in residence for the past three seasons, revives one of the Orchestra’s greatest successes both in concert and on disc, Holst’s astrological suite The Planets, an all-time audience favorite. Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and the other planets sing and dance under the conductor’s baton. Also on the program is Vivier’s Orion and Liszt’s virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 2 with soloist Marc-André Hamelin. This concert will be repeated at the opening of the Cervantino International Festival in Guanajuato, Mexico on October 14.
