Air Canada Classical Escapes

This series constitutes a true musical voyage around the world, spanning eras, continents and genres. Stops along the way will include Vienna, where the waltz is king and Paris, City of Light. We’ll go to Russia, land of the tsars. We’ll visit famous concert halls where the OSM has played on tour and drop into small theaters where art films are shown and jazz clubs thrive. You’ll meet pianists Alain Lefèvre and Nicolas Angelich, violinist Alexandre da Costa, soprano Hélène Guillemette, the David Benoit Jazz Trio and conductors Franz-Paul Decker, Jean-Claude Casadesus and Jean-François Rivest.

Before each concert, the OSM's conductor-in-residence, Jean-François Rivest, talks about the music on the program.

For me, the OSM is a real gem, an extraordinary musical partner. Recording André Mathieu’s Rhapsodie romantique with this international ambassador of music was a rare privilege. This CD won a Felix from the ADISQ for Best Classical Album of the Year for 2007. Although I have played with the OSM on many occasions, I always look forward eagerly to return engagements on a stage where every musician is an outstanding player whom I salute for brilliant performances and a great love of music.” Alain Lefèvre

The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal is the musical organization that has not only had the greatest impact on my career, but has also strongly influenced my musical life in general. Since I was a child I have always admired this orchestra; indeed, it was in the course of attending its concerts that my dream of becoming a musician was born.” Alexandre da Costa
