THE OSM CHORUS
The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal Chorus was established in the 1980s at the request of Charles Dutoit. Since then it has joined the OSM in hundreds of performances of the world’s great. Its many recordings with the OSM include Berlioz’ Les Troyens (Grammy Award 1996) and Holst’s The Planets (Grand Prix du Disque -Canada 1988).
The OSM Chorus has appeared in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, New York, Philadelphia, and Saratoga Springs in such varied works as Handel's Messiah, Bach’s B minor Mass, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Verdi’s Requiem, Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony, Shostakovich’s Babi Yar Symphony, Dallapiccola’s Il Prigionero. Along with performances conducted by Charles Dutoit and Kent Nagano, the OSM Chorus has sung under guest conductors including Nicholas McGegan, Zubin Mehta, Krzysztof Penderecki, Robert Shaw, and its chorusmaster for the last twenty-one years Iwan Edwards.
The chorus is comprised of fifty professional singers and 80 to 100 volunteer singers.
