It has been truly inspiring to see young audiences enthusiastically take part in the opening celebrations of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal’s new residence, the Maison symphonique de Montréal, this past season. Our home, which is intimate and warm, has allowed us to create a new proximity with our audience, and we look forward to welcoming you again in this wonderful setting for another season of pleasant discovery.
The OSM strongly believes in the importance of musical education and giving young people access to the extraordinarily rich world of classical music. This season, we invite you to discover the genius of the somewhat eccentric composer Ludwig van Beethoven, to experience both musically and visually the tales of Ma Mère l’Oye (Mother Goose), and to explore the music of North America. This last concert will feature Inuit throat singers, jazz, and a new concerto by Quebec composer Walter Boudreau, which will be performed by the renowned pianist Alain Lefèvre.
We are very pleased that all three of this season’s Youth Concerts as well as a special Symphonic Matinee concert featuring Dvorák’s “New World” Symphony will be conducted by Nathan Brock, the OSM’s conductor in residence. Nathan was part of the team that won the 2011 “Production of the Year – Young Audiences” Opus Prize for the program You Can Never Be Too Classical. The Orchestra, and I personally, invite each and every one of you to take part in this wonderful new season. The OSM musicians and their guests will share their joyful passion for our captivating symphonic repertoire.
