Olympic Park's Esplanade – Wednesday August 10 – 7:30 p.m.

The Many Colours of the Americas

Rafael Payare and the OSM summon you to the Olympic Park’s Esplanade to celebrate the richness of great music that has echoed across American lands, from Canada to Venezuela, for many centuries. Join soloists and artists from throughout the Americas on a timeless, breathtaking voyage from the “New World” Symphony to an Indigenous song, and from West Side Story to Cuban composer Paquito D’Rivera’s Trumpet Concerto.

The Classical Spree takes to the Streets! Experience music in some brave new ways right out on Sainte-Catherine Street:

– Dance workshops (tango, Quebec folk dancing)
– Percussion workshops with Baratanga
– Wind instrument demonstrations
Drumline workshops

Esplanade tranquille and Pavillon tranquille

The Esplanade is a family relaxation hub featuring chamber music performances, body percussion workshops for children, and yoga with live classical music. The schedule of these events will leave room for downtime to the sounds of the OSM coming through to you on the Esplanade’s loudspeakers.

An extension of the Esplanade family hub, the Pavillon’s Réfectoire and Grand Salon play host to all kinds of activities for children of various age groups. On the program: musical awakening, reading corner (in collaboration with the BAnQ), as well as story time with the BAnQ.

Place des Arts

The Place des Arts and its different spaces (Salon Urbain, Espace OSM, Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme) will all liven up to become hot spots for visitors to learn more about music and musicians:

– Chamber music concerts
– Instrument demonstrations
– Talks and lectures
– Listening clubs
– Augmented and virtual reality experiences
– A space to meet the artists (signatures and photo-taking)
– A family space that features a collaborative mural project and streamed family concerts

Complexe Desjardins

The Complexe Desjardins will be transformed into a full-blown concert hall for the weekend. Attend performances by ensembles of young musicians and amateur orchestras.

Espace OSM offers visitors the chance to engage with music in different ways, through visual and auditory experiences. During the Classical Spree, you can be part of a listening club, attend panel discussions and talks, and dive right to the heart of what it means to be a conductor in virtual reality.   A stopover that’s well worth the visit!

 

Take a stand behind the podium, immerse yourself in the conductor’s score and bring to life different combinations of instruments. This virtual reality helps users decipher the music in a new way.

The Salon Urbain is a space for festival-goers to enjoy some unique interactions. You can contemplate wind and string instruments, or exchange with artists, but also walk around the Classical Spree market or virtually explore the interior of the Grand Orgue Pierre-Béique … you’ll be spoiled for options!

Esplanade Tranquille

Take a well-deserved break at the Esplanade Tranquille and relax to streamed OSM music interspersed with performances of chamber music, presentations that trace the history of the violin, and yoga to live musical accompaniment.

Presentation of the urban installation La Sentinelle

Produced by La boîte interactive and mirari, La Sentinelle is a summer-long, interactive and participatory installation that celebrates the evocative and universal character of music. With soundtracks performed by the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, this project comes to life at the Espace public in the heart of the city of Mont-Tremblant. Passers-by are invited to discover the living arts in an open-air performance venue enhanced by the OSM’s universe of symphonic sound.

Pavillon Tranquille

All family members can enjoy activities in the Pavillon Tranquille, including three kinds of musical awakening events. Additionally, in collaboration with Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ), enjoy a reading area, a living library, musical creation workshops and Story Time for little ones.

Throughout the Classical Spree, the Espace Sainte-Catherine offers a host of options: a deep dive to the heart of the Orchestra with the augmented reality project OSM Polyphonique, a family space to relax, breastfeed or enjoy streamed concerts for all ages, participative mural project, or a photobooth to capture your most winning smiles!
