Barber’s Superb Violin Concerto

Barber’s Superb Violin Concerto

Maison symphonique de Montréal

SEASON PARTNER

BMO-WEB---+Marge

A former OSM Competition winner, the charismatic Canadian violinist Blake Pouliot joins forces with the Orchestra in Barber’s Violin Concerto. A masterpiece at turns lyrical or introspective, its last movement driven by a rhythmic fury, this concerto is an unquestionable tour de force for the soloist. The Negro Folk Symphony by African-American composer William Levi Dawson delivers a unique fusion of spirituals and post-Romantic symphonic aesthetics, with a few discreet nods to European composers. Roderick Cox: a conductor at the vanguard.

ENHANCE YOUR EXPERIENCE

After the concert on October 14, we invite you to stay in the hall and take a seat at the Parterre level for an organ recital. After a short change of stage set-up, organist Samuel Lee, a student at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, in Isabelle Demers’ class, will perform his final doctoral recital. Samuel Lee will perform organ transcriptions of works by Wagner and Dvorak, as well as other works for organ. The recital will last approximately one hour.
