Tchaikovsky and the Force of Destiny
Tchaikovsky and the Force of Destiny
Maison symphonique de Montréal
Fate pays a visit to the OSM with works by Verdi and Tchaikovsky. The latter described his poignant Symphony no. 4 as evoking “that fatal force which hangs above your head like the sword of Damocles.” This concert also features the first performance of Canadian composer Tim Brady’s Violin Concerto no. 2, with OSM Concertmaster Andrew Wan as soloist, conducted by Jordan de Souza.

Jordan de Souza
Canadian conductor Jordan de Souza completed four years with the Komische Oper Berlin in 2020, collaborating with renowned director Barrie Kosky on four critically acclaimed new productions: Pelléas et Mélisande, La Bohème, Weinberger’s Frühlingsstürme and Candide. He appears with numerous renowned orchestras worldwide.
Recent highlights include Die Zauberflöte at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, the Orchestre symphonique de Québec in a programme including Tchaikovsky’s “Pathétique” Symphony. His success with the Philharmonia Orchestra at Garsington Opera’s Der Rosenkavalier in 2021 led to engagements with this orchestra in their Royal Festival Hall this season, which also features performances with major Canadian orchestras and a debut with the Seattle opera (Tristan und Isolde) and the Orchestra della Toscana.
Born in Toronto, Jordan studied conducting at McGill University and made his debut at 20 in Bach’s St John Passion. His repertoire has never ceased to grow and diversify, embracing opera, the orchestral repertoire and choral music.
