THE OSM CONTEST - PRIZES AND SCHOLARSHIPS

The OSM Grand Prize includes:

  • A $10,000 Scholarship ;
  • A concert with the OSM, conducted by Matthias Pintscher, on February 27, 2020, at Maison symphonique de Montréal;
  • The Orford Music Prize: a recital at Orford Music presented in 2020;

 

Michèle-Paré Prize:

  • A $5,000 scholarship, in order to support the development of a professional career in music. This prize is awarded to the OSM Grand Prize.

 

Prizes for the top ranking winner in Strings

  • The Orchestra of the Americas Prize: a concert tour during the 2020 summer season. This prize is offered thanks to the contribution of the Ariane Riou and Réal Plourde Foundation;
  • The National Arts Centre Prize:  a performance opportunity at the National Arts Centre as part of the 2020-2021 season;
  • The Northern Arts and Cultural Centre Prize: a recital in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, as part of the 2021-2022 season;
  • The Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra Prize: a concert in St. John’s, Newfoundland, as part of the 2020-2021 season.

 

Prizes for the top ranking winner in Organ

 

Cash prizes and grants

The first prizes:

  • A $10,000 Scholarship, awarded in each of the three categories (one of them included in the Grand Prize).

 

The second prizes:

  • Strings Class A category: A $5,000 scholarship, offered by the Marjorie and Gerald Bronfman Foundation.
  • Strings Class B category: A $5,000 scholarship, offered by the Paul A. Fournier Foundation.
  • Organ category: The $5,000 V. E. Lambert scholarship, offered by the Lambert-Fortier-Gagnon Succession.

 

The third prizes:

  • Strings Class A category: The $2,500 V. E. Lambert scholarship, offered by the Lambert-Fortier-Gagnon Succession.
  • Strings Class B category: The $2,500 Aline-Hector-Perrier scholarship, offered by Les Amis de l’Art
  • Organ category: A $2,500 scholarship, offered by Mrs. Barbara Bronfman.

 

Prize for the best interpretation of a Canadian work:

  • Strings Class A category: A $2,500 scholarship, offered by the OSM Volunteers’ Association.
  • Strings Class B category: A $2,500 scholarship, offered by the OSM Musicians’ Association.
  • Organ category: A $2,500 scholarship, offered by Mrs. Juliana Pleines.

 

Stingray Rising Stars Award – Public’s Choice:

  • A $2,500 cash prize offered to the finalist who will get the most votes on the web and live at the Maison symphonique during the final rounds on November 30, 2019.

 

Other prizes:

  • The Aspen Music Festival and SchoolPrize: a scholarship covering tuition and accommodation for an eight-week music-training program during the summer of 2020 (offered in the Strings category). This prize is offered thanks to the contribution of the Ariane Riou and Réal Plourde Foundation.
  • The Banff Centre Prize: scholarships covering tuition and accommodation for a three-week music-training program in 2020 (offered in the Strings category).
  • The Orford Music Prize: scholarships covering tuition and accommodation for a two-week music-training program at Orford Music, in 2020 (offered in the Strings category).
  • The Domaine Forget Prize: scholarships covering tuition and accommodation for a two-week music-training program at the Domaine Forget, in 2020 (offered in the Strings category).
  • The Schulich School of Music Prize: three scholarships covering complete tuition for a program of performance at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music (offered to first prize winners in the Strings A, B and Organ categories)
