26. Chopin, Poulenc and Ravel with Carter Johnson

Piano Nobile

Here is a great opportunity to hear the young Canadian pianist Carter Johnson, winner of the OSM Competition in 2018. He will excerpts from Poulenc’s Improvisations and two masterpieces of the repertoire the Polonaise-fantaisie, op. 61 by Chopin, overflowing with imagination, and Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin, in which the Prélude, Fugue, and ancient dances culminate in a dazzling Toccata.

Chopin, Polonaise-fantaisie in A-flat major, op. 61

Poulenc, Improvisations, excerpts

Ravel, Le tombeau de Couperin

“His interpretation of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3, opus 26 was quite simply prodigious, with, among other things, a subdued softness in the second movement (Tema com variazioni) and a very accomplished virtuosity, notably in the third movement (Allegro ma non troppo).” – Ludwig van Montréal
