Matins symphoniques 22-23
Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider in Performance and Conducting the OSM
Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider in Performance and Conducting the OSM
Maison symphonique de Montréal
This warm, lyrical concert showcases several soloists from the OSM alongside conductor Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider, who swaps his baton for a violin bow in his performance of the string sextet from Richard Strauss’ Capriccio. Back on the podium, he then conducts Armenian composer Alexander Arutiunian’s Trumpet Concerto, as well as Austrian composer Zemlinsky’s The Mermaid, a multi-episode fantasy for orchestra colourfully depicting the heroine’s vain quest for love.
Please note that changes have been made to the program. Conductor Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider had to cancel his appearance in Montreal due to health reasons. He will be replaced by conductor Andrey Boreyko.
As a result of this change, Andrew Wan, OSM concertmaster, and Alexander Read, OSM second concertmaster, will play the two violin parts in R. Strauss’ Capriccio.
The OSM regrets any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any questions, we invite you to contact our customer service.

Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider, conductor
Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider is a regular guest conductor of the world’s leading orchestras. He inaugurated his first season as Music Director of the Orchestre national de Lyon in September 2021. In 2019, following his triumphant The Magic Flute at the Dresden Semperoper, Szeps-Znaider immediately returned to conduct Der Rosenkavalier. Since then, he has made his debut at the Royal Danish Opera conducting a new production of The Magic Flute, among other achievements in opera.
Szeps-Znaider maintains his reputation as one of the world’s leading violinists, with a busy calendar of concerto and recital engagements. He is passionate about supporting the next generation of musical talent, and is President of the Nielsen Competition, which occurs every three years in Odense, Denmark. Szeps-Znaider plays the “Kreisler” Guarnerius “del Gesu” 1741 loaned to him by The Royal Danish Theatre through the generosity of the VELUX Foundations, the Villum Fonden and the Knud Højgaard Foundation.
