Florence Laurain
Florence Laurain holds the position of Second Flute in the woodwind section of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. A member of the OSM since 2023, she studied at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal with Marie-Andrée Benny, and earned a Master’s degree in orchestral performance from the Haute école de musique de Genève, where she studied under Jacques Zoon. She has performed with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the Orchestre de chambre de Genève, and has also taken part in the Verbier Festival Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. She was a finalist in the Prix d’Europe Competition, where she received three awards, and was a semi-finalist in the OSM Competition, where she won the Orford Music Prize. In 2024, she was named in CBC’s “30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30”.
Her love of music was passed down by her mother, a passionate music lover and singer. Immersed in classical music from a young age, Florence began with piano, voice, and recorder before discovering the flute. It was in high school that she discovered the joy of playing in an orchestra and decided to pursue music as a career.
