2026-2027Beneath the city, workers march in unison, consumed by colossal machines. Above them, in the upper city, a carefree elite surveys its empire. Between these two worlds reign tension, oppression, and uprising. From its very first images, Fritz Lang’s Metropolis pulls us into a striking futuristic vision in which humanity struggles not to be crushed by progress. For its centennial, this monument of silent cinema is reborn as a live cine-concert in its restored extended version. Under the direction of Frank Strobel, the OSM performs Gottfried Huppertz’s powerful score live, revealing the full modernity of a masterpiece that has profoundly shaped the aesthetics of science-fiction cinema.
