Richard Strauss: Symphonic Imagination – 2
2026-2027Balancing metaphysical reflection with flashes of whimsy, this program reveals the full dramatic range of Strauss. Death and Transfiguration elevates the evening with a poignant musical fresco in which a soul, standing at the threshold of death, finds peace in the light. With Till Eulenspiegel, the mood shifts entirely: sharp strokes, leaping rhythms, and irresistible orchestral humor. Then comes Don Quixote, whose variations take on a rare expressive intensity thanks to Alisa Weilerstein’s cello, beautifully supported by Rafael Payare. An alternate version of this concert is also offered, featuring Don Juan in place of Till Eulenspiegel.
A large-scale masterpiece where the full power of the orchestra delivers a truly breathtaking experience.
