Charles Benaroya
Charles Benaroya has held the position of second trombone in the brass section of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal since 2022. He earned a Bachelor of Music from McGill University, where he studied with James Box and David Martin. He previously served as principal trombone with the Canadian Opera Company and the National Ballet of Canada in Toronto, as well as second trombone with the Orchestre symphonique de Québec. In addition to his orchestral career, Charles was a guest soloist at the 2025 edition of the International Trombone Festival. He also teaches at the Université de Montréal.
Charles says he became a musician “by accident”. He began playing the euphonium at age 12 thanks to his high school’s mandatory music program. The encouragement of a few outstanding teachers convinced him to become increasingly involved in learning music. By the time he reached CEGEP, becoming a musician was the obvious path for him!
