Daniel Yakymyshyn
Daniel Yakymyshyn is a violinist in the second violin section of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal (OSM). A member of the OSM since 1985, he earned a Bachelor of Music Degree with Honors in Performance at McGill University, where he studied with Mauricio Fuks (1981-83) and Thomas Williams (1983-85).
Growing up in Edmonton, Daniel’s first teacher was Broderyck Olson, who taught him from age 6-18. “Broddy had a wonderful sense of humour. When I was 12 years old, he once told me that if I practiced my scales and arpeggios and learned a certain piece well enough, he would get me on the ‘Liberace Show’!”
Daniel also played in the Edmonton Youth Orchestra (1972-1981) and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada in the summer of 1976 in Quebec City.
Outside of music, Daniel also won first place in the triple jump at the Province of Alberta High School Track and Field Competition in 1978, with a jump of 12.98 meters!
