Ingrid Matthiessen
Ingrid Matthiessen is a violinist in the first violin section of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM). A member of the OSM since 1987, she holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in music from the Juilliard School of Music. She has received scholarships from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Nova Scotia Talent Trust Awards, and the Chester Education Foundation.
Although Ingrid’s first instrument was the recorder, it was the cello that initially intrigued her. However, due to the high rental cost, she ultimately chose the more affordable violin—a decision that clearly paid off, as her career demonstrates! Ingrid is also an avid animal lover: she lives on a farm with eight horses, two geese, chickens, dogs, a donkey, and even a parrot!
She plays a violin made in 2018 by Peter Greiner.
