San Rim
San Rim has been a section cellist with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal since 2026. He completed his classical music performance studies at the University of Toronto. He has studied with Susan Gagnon, Joseph Johnson, Paul Widner, and the renowned cello pedagogue Steven Doane. San is a recipient of the Lorand Fenyves String Scholarship of the University of Toronto and also won his faculty’s Concerto Competition. He previously performed as a guest principal cellist with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra.
San chose a career in music because he could not imagine his life without it. By the end of his university studies, there was no longer any doubt that he wanted to surround himself with music for the rest of his life, firmly believing in its transformative and emotional power, as well as in the impact music can have on an audience. Outside of his musical career, San has a strong passion for cooking, having worked in the restaurant industry during his studies.
San’s cello training began through the Suzuki Method. His instrument is generously loaned by Wendy Reid.
