Sebastian Gonzalez Mora
Sebastian Gonzalez Mora is a section violist with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal.
A member of the OSM since 2025, he earned a bachelor’s degree from the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal after nine years of study in Jocelyne Bastien’s class. He then completed a master’s degree at McGill University under the guidance of Victor Fournelle-Blain, while also enriching his training with André Roy. By joining the OSM, he continues the tradition of his three Quebec mentors—Jocelyne Bastien, Victor Fournelle-Blain, and André Roy—who each built their own careers within the orchestra.
To round out his academic journey, he earned a performance certificate from the Musikhochschule Lübeck in Germany, where he studied with Lena Eckels.
Winner of the Pirastro Prize for Outstanding Young Talent at the 2021 Oskar Nedbal International Viola Competition in the Czech Republic, Sebastian also received the grand prize at the Chœur de la Montagne Competition (2018 and 2021) and the MDA-Québec Competition in 2018.
He credits his parents—with their discipline and perseverance—for sparking his passion for music.
