
Sophie van der Sloot
Sophie van der Sloot is Second Assistant Cello in the string section of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. A member of the OSM since 2023, she studied at the prestigious Juilliard School. In 2021, she received the Ottawa Chamberfest Rising Stars Scholarship. She is also a first prize winner of the Canadian Music Competition and a second prize winner at the National Music Festival. Sophie was also featured on CBC’s 30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30 in 2025. In addition to her orchestral career, Sophie has appeared as a soloist with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney Classical Orchestra, the Victorian Chamber Orchestra, the Oakville Chamber Orchestra, and the Sooke Philharmonic, among others.
Sophie has been immersed in music since childhood, with both of her parents being musicians. This early exposure nurtured a deep and boundless love for music, which ultimately led her to pursue it as a career.
