Jean-Sébastien Roy
Jean-Sébastien Roy holds the position of First Assistant in the first violin section of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. A member of the OSM since 2015, he studied at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and took private lessons with Rodney Friend in London. He was a laureate of the OSM Competition in 2004, won the Prix d’Europe in 2006, and received the Joseph Rouleau Prize at the Montreal International Musical Competition in both 2003 and 2006.
In addition to his orchestral career, Jean-Sébastien teaches at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and at the Université de Montréal. Prior to his position at the OSM, he served as concertmaster with the Columbus Symphony and the McGill Chamber Orchestra, and was guest concertmaster with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Swedish Opera in 2015.
Several factors led him to pursue a career in music: a love and passion for music, a taste for challenges, and a desire to master his instrument.
